Your comment: It's good to have you back, Geoff. The dancing looks delightful. As a native of the Appalachian Mountains, I can sympathize with your spelling trials. Be glad you didn't live near the confluence of the Youghiogheny and Monongahela Rivers! (That's yock-a-GAY-nee and muh-nong-ga-HAY-luh, for the neophytes.)

Your comment: Trying to figure out where you live, I think it must be facing Hungerdown lane. My place is the one the I used to decorate with christmas lights and collect for clic, but with the sharp rise in electricity and being pensioners we couldn't afford to do it any more. Never been to Vincients wood, must get up there this year, enjoyed the photos

Wessexcam says: Hi Rob! yes, we know your house and the Reference Guide stopped for a chat a couple of years back. By all means have a trip to Vincient's, it's like the old cigar ads used to say: small but perfectly formed!

Your comment: Hi Kevin! Love the photos as always, and also your fine sense of humour! The mystery flower is, I am pretty damned sure, a monkshood. Keep up the great work! Greetings from Sao Paulo, Brazil (I'll be back in Melbourne by the end of the month).

Wessexcam says: Thank you Ray, I've informed the Reference Guide accordingly! Enjoy Brazil and safe journey home!

Your comment: The pictures remind me of the Farmers' and Threshermen's Jubilee in New Centerville, a small rural town nestled in the beautiful Laurel Mountains of Somerset County in southwestern Pennsylvania. I grew up nearby and love the steam engines and traction machines. The Jubilee also allows folks to bring their dogs and features delicious food and old-time crafts. Thanks so much for your wonderful website!

Wessexcam says: Hi Sue, thanks for the note, it's good to hear that the newsletter's getting through. I had a look at the web site for last year's jubilee and yes, very much in the same vein, although New Centervilles Outhouse dash for privies mounted on wheels must be unique!

Your comment: We all know Timothy Hackworth was the best - but you have not declared your vested interest! Incidentally - check your date of Wessex Flyer. Love the Peto pictures - what a superb garden.
Date: 14 July 2008
Wessexcam says: Yes, I was going to mention the supposed (but unproven) family link between the Emersons and the Hackworths, but if I did everyone would just assume that I am biased. I am, but it doesn't mean I'm wrong! Thanks for spotting the deliberate error on the Wessex flyer - what's a century here and there...

I loved the Peto garden too and was lucky to get there on a perfect afternoon. I just wish I could have captured the sound of the orchestra drifting over the garden too.

Your comment: Hi Geoff, Congratulations on the new layout for Wessex Cam. Having looked at your style options I like the new one, but seeing the original style I agree with you I do like the original colour scheme. As for your new in house guestbook you should market it. I could think of one site that could use it. All the best, David

Your comment: Great shots. My brother lives nearby, in Caldicot, and I've visited the bridge several times but never namaged to do much in the way of photographing it. I did manage to follow the construction of the SSC, though, but the "old" bridge is my favourite. Keep up the good work and please try to update more often - it's good for my nostalgia. Regards, John
